Eugene Ellmen has been active in the socially responsible investment industry for more than 25 years.
Trained as a journalist, Eugene covered the early days of SRI in the late 1980s as a business reporter for Canadian Press. From there, he helped to popularize SRI through his best-selling book, The Canadian Ethical Money Guide, published in five editions between 1988 and 1998.
In 1989, he sat on the committee that founded the Responsible Investment Association, and continued to be an active member of the RIA through its formative years. In 1999, he joined the RIA as its Executive Director, a position he held until January, 2013.
In his career with the RIA, he played a central role in the development of the SRI industry through leadership on membership and conference development, public policy, research and member services. Throughout, he has been a volunteer in the industry, serving as an early member of the loan committee of Access Capital, and a member of the Board of the Community Power Fund.
Currently, Eugene is advancing awareness of global impact investing through his position as National Director for Oikocredit Canada, the Canadian arm of the international development fund, Oikocredit.
