The Responsible Investment Association (RIA) is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Canadian RI Distinguished Service Award. The award was given to Eugene Ellmen, Moira Hutchinson, and Robert Walker at the 2013 Canadian Responsible Investment Conference in Vancouver on June 18th.
“We are so proud of these outstanding individuals who have done so much to promote responsible investing (RI) in Canada. Because of their contributions, Canadian investors can make investment decisions that generate competitive long-term financial returns and positive societal impact,” said Gary Hawton, President of the RIA and 2012 recipient of the award. “Moira, Eugene and Bob have helped lead the way to a brighter and more sustainable future for all Canadians.”
Moira Hutchinson’s leadership of the Taskforce on the Churches and Corporate Responsibility (TCCR) helped lay the foundation for the RI industry in Canada. TCCR’s work originally focused on South African apartheid but soon expanded to other countries and issues. After leaving TCCR, Moira went on to promote SRI as a volunteer and consultant. Moira continues to lead the way through her work with the investment committees of the United Church of Canada and the Atkinson Foundation.
Eugene Ellmen has been active in the SRI industry for more than 25 years. Eugene covered the early days of SRI as a business reporter for Canadian Press. From there he helped popularize SRI through his best-selling book, The Canadian Ethical Money Guide, published in five editions between 1988 and 1998. Eugene was the Executive Director of the RIA from 1999 until January 2013 and is currently advancing awareness of global impact investing through his position as National Director for Oikocredit Canada.
Bob Walker is Vice-President of ESG Services for NEI Investments. Bob leads the team responsible for NEI’s ESG Investing Program. Bob has designed and shepherded the program since its inception more than ten years ago. It has earned numerous Canadian Investment Awards, an Ethics in Action Award and the Globe Conference Award for Sustainable Finance. Bob is a former executive director of the RIA and the current Chair of the Boreal Leadership Council.

L’Association pour l’investissement responsable (AIR) est fière d’annoncer les lauréats de cette année du Prix du service méritoire en ISR au Canada. Ce prix a été décerné à Moira Hutchinson, à Eugene Ellmen et à Robert Walker lors du Congrès canadien 2013 de l’investissement responsable à Vancouver le 18 juin.
« Nous sommes tellement fiers de ces personnes remarquables qui ont tant fait pour promouvoir l’investissement socialement responsable (ISR) au Canada. Grâce à leurs contributions, les investisseurs canadiens peuvent prendre des décisions de placement qui génèrent des rendements financiers concurrentiels à long terme de même qu’une incidence sociale positive, a déclaré Gary Hawton, président de l’AIR et lauréat de ce prix en 2012. Moira, Eugene et Bob ont contribué à bâtir un avenir prometteur et davantage axé sur la durabilité, au bénéfice de tous les Canadiens. »
Le leadership de Moira Hutchinson au sein du Comité inter-Églises sur les responsabilités des corporations (TCCR) a contribué à jeter les assises du secteur de l’ISR au Canada. Ciblant d’abord le rôle des entreprises dans l’apartheid en Afrique du Sud, le travail de la TCCR fut ensuite élargi pour inclure d’autres pays et d’autres enjeux. Suite à son départ de la TCCR, Moira a fait la promotion de l’ISR à titre de bénévole et de consultante. À titre de membre des comités de placement de l’Église Unie du Canada et de la Atkinson Charitable Foundation, Moira continue d’ouvrir la voie.
Eugene Ellmen œuvre dans le secteur de l’ISR depuis plus de 25 ans, ayant couvert les débuts de l’ISR à titre de chroniqueur financier à La Presse Canadienne. Il a par la suite contribué à faire connaître l’ISR grâce à son livre à succès The Canadian Ethical Money Guide, dont cinq éditions ont été publiées entre 1988 et 1998. Eugene a été directeur général de l’AIR de 1999 jusqu’à janvier 2013 et il se consacre actuellement à sensibiliser la population à l’investissement d’impact mondial, à titre de directeur national d’Oikocredit Canada.
Bob Walker est vice-président du Service ESG de Placements NEI. Bob dirige l’équipe responsable de la mise en œuvre du Programme d’investissement ESG de Placements NEI. Il a conçu ce programme et il le dirige depuis sa création il y a plus de dix ans. Ce programme s’est mérité de nombreux Prix canadiens du placement, un prix Ethics in Action et le prix GLOBE des finances durables. Anciennement directeur général de l’AIR, Bob est actuellement président du Conseil principal de la forêt boréale.
